You haven't included a circuit but :
- Voltage in series SPLITS
- Voltage in parallel remains the SAME
So if in your question you are given a series circuit (with 1 branch) then you must add up all the voltages of each component.
However, if in your question you are given a parallel circuit, the voltage of each component will be the same.
