The distance between -3 and 0 is positive 3 , and the distance between 0 and 5 is 5, add 5 and 3 together to get a distance of 8

The distance between -3 and 5 is 7. If you were to include -3 and 5 into it, then it would be 9. But the distance BETWEEN is 7.
