In order to become an emissary like his father Monkey, Wei-Chen must pass a test of virtue first. His test is to avoid all human vices. Wei-Chen then purposefully fails his test due to his hatred for Jin after he is betrayed by him and because he wants to experience human pleasures and not limit his life.
