Serbians resented Austrians when Austria-Hungary annexed
Bosnia and Herzegovina. This led to the
assassination of Archduke Francis Ferdinand by Gavrilo Princip and members of
the Black Hand. This would lead to
conflict that began the First World War between the Triple Alliance and Triple
Entente.
