Write 8 and 512 as powers of 2:

[tex]8=2^3[/tex]

[tex]512=2^9=(2^3)^3[/tex]

So we have

[tex]\log_8512=\log_{2^3}(2^3)^3=3\log_{2^3}2^3=3[/tex]
