For this case we have the following functions:

[tex]f (x) = 2x + 1\\g (x) = x ^ 2-7[/tex]

We must find the following sum of functions:

(f + g) (x)

By definition we have to:

[tex](f + g) (x) = f (x) + g (x)\\(f + g) (x) = 2x + 1 + x ^ 2-7\\(f + g) (x) = x ^ 2 + 2x-6[/tex]

So, we have to:

[tex](f + g) (x) = x ^ 2 + 2x-6[/tex]

Answer:

[tex](f + g) (x) = x ^ 2 + 2x-6[/tex]
