All you need is to move everything except the "x" to the other side of the equation. You do it by adding or subtracting a number from both sides of the equation. So:

1) 4.8 + x - 5.9 = 3.6
2) x - 5.9 = 3.6 - 4.8
3) x = 3.6 - 4.8 + 5.9
4) x = 4.7
