First answer: x = 3

How?

3x - 7 = 2

3x = 2 + 7

3x = 9

x = 9/3

x = 3

Second Answer:= x=5

How?

3 + 2x - (x + 1) = 3x - 6

-3x + 2x - x = -6 - 3 - 1

-2x = -10

x = 5
