length = 2 x width

permiter = length x width x 2

perimeter = 72

72 ÷ 2 = 36

36 = 1 length and 1 width

(2 x width) + width = 36

width = x

2x + x = 36

3x = 36

x = 12

width = 12

length = 2 x width = 2 x 12 = 24

so

width = 12

length = 24
