Chromosomes are visible under the microscope during cell division, as because the chromatin has condensed and essentially the DNA with numerous histone proteins wrapped around and folded again and again to produce thick structures of chromosomes during prophase. The DNA replicated will condense and or wrap and fold to produce these thick structures.
