Seperate the xs and numbers
5x+12 = x-4
4x = -16
X = -4

5x+12=x-4
add 4 to both sides
5x+8=x
subtract x from both sides
4x+8=0
subtract 8 from both sides
4x=-8
divide both sides by 4
x=-2
