5h + 3d  = 11.50   * 2
4h + 2d = 8.50      * 3

10h + 6d =  23
 12h + 6d = 25.50

subtract  the former equation from the latter:-

2h = 2.50
h = 1.25

so susbstituting in the second equation

4(1.25) + 2d = 8.50 
 5 + 2d = 8.50
2d =  3.50
d = 1.75

hot dogs cost  $1.25 and drinks cost $1.75
