1/4 can be multiplied by 2/2 to become 2/8. Your new problem is now 7/8+ 2/8. this becomes 9/8. If you want it in mixed number form divide 9 by 8 and you get 1 remainder 1. this would make the mixed number [tex]1 \frac{1}{8} [/tex]
