During the John Adam's administration, the US fought an undeclared war with France. This war was called "Quasi-War". The US refuse to keep paying his debts to the revolutionary France (after the French Revolution) and it made the French start to attack American ships. The end of this quasi-war was signed in the Convention of 1800.
