You'd use the distance formula to find the length of the segment.

The distance formula is:

D = √(x2-x1)^2 + (y2-y1)^2

= √(-8-5)^2 + (7-1)^2

= √(-13)^2 + (6)^2

= √169 + 36

=√205

And that should be the answer.
