It is the condyloid process. This is the structure of the mandible that "sticks out" from the most posterior part of the mandible on both sides. These condyloid processes end on an articular surface that will articulate on the articular disk of the in the mandibular fossa of the temporal bone. These are the two bone structures that end up being involved in this articulation.
