One comparison or analogy that can be drawn from Thoreau's transition from the pond of winter and in spring is an awakening. In the pond of winter Thoreau expresses kind of a desire for meaning, almost a void that needs filling or a question that needs to be answered. As he transitions into spring he sees signs of reemergence and vitality, and he too feels reinvigorated.
