Joe bought a length of timber for his fence. He uses 1/5 of the wood for the first garden and 3/8 for the second garden. What fraction of the wood remains for the third garden

1/5 + 3/8 =  8/40 + 15/40 = 23/40   40/40 -23/40 = 17/40

17/40 of the wood remains for the third garden.
