2.3=7.9+y how do I solve

You subtract 7.9 from each side so that the "Y" is left by itself. This will leave you with -5.6=y. This could be your answer but its best to put the variable that you're solving for, "Y", at the beginning of the equation.
 Y= -5.6 would be your answer.
