usually a bike is made of metal, and the cheapest one is iron. Downside to this is that iron (Fe) easily oxidizes ( a chemical reaction) to form rust (Fe2O3).

That is why many manufacturers now use alloys of other metals such as aluminum, magnesium and even carbon fibre.
