As  both expressions of x are equal to y they can be equated to each other. So we have
x+46 = 7x + 16
46 - 16 = 7x - x
30 = 6x

x = 5 

Now plug in x = 5:-

 y = x + 46 = 5 + 46 = 51

Answer i s  x = 5, y = 51
