What evolutionary explanations are there for death?

The possible evolutionary explanation for death is that an organism which was less adapted to its environemnt will die out sooner than will the one that was adapted more to it. Another possible way of thinking is that each organism has to die in order for his offspring that will likely be slightly more adapted to the environment to live on.
