Introspective. Its a mood of brooding and revisiting memories that were at times very painful and at other times highly patriotic for the narrator. He remembers the bad from the war, the loss of his friends etc but also remembers how it brought latent qualities in those men that can only be brought forth by men fighting together for one side.
