there can be 2 properties u could use...

5x = 20.....division property...divide both sides by 5
x = 4

or

5x = 20....multiplication property...multiply both sides by 1/5
x = 20 * 1/5
x = 20/5
x = 4

Use the division property of equality.

What you do to one side, you do to the other.

Divide 5 from both sides

5x/5 = 20/5

x = 20/5

x = 4
