First thing I recommend Derek to do if you wants to become a game designer is Finnish high school get his diploma and go to college and get a Bachelor's Degree , before he even considers all of this he should be a extremely creative person, because thats what that industry demands.. After he finish's his Bachelor's Degree he needs to determined a career path on where he wants to take it. Finally he can create his own game or apply to develop for a bigger company.
